2 out of 2 for Wendy Jans

Wendy Jans recorded two easy wins in Group A to progress to the knockout stages of the 2023 European Women individual Championships in Albena (Bulgaria). First in the morning session of Day 1 the 14-time champion needed just over 40 minutes to defeat Elena Kurbakova (Israel) 2:0.

Then the Belgian was even quicker dispatching Mhairi Mackay (Scottland) by the same score recording in the process the biggest break of the tournament so far (69). Thus Jans is assured of a Top 2 finish in the group and is already through to the next round.

Through to the next round from Group A is also Monica Manolache (Romania). From Group B Anna Prysazhnuka (Latvia) and Ewa Pavlinska (Poland) have also clinched a place in the knockout stage alongside Dalia Alska (Poland) and Anja Vandenbussche (Belgium) from Group C.

In the Seniors event there was a joy for the home team. In Group T Bulgarian Ivan Kupov beat Roberto Simoni (Italy) 3:0 clinching the match on the black. Unlike him Vladimir Ivanov suffered a 3:0 defeat in Group F losing to Pascal Tollenaere (Belgium).
