A cut in the blind pocket lifts Vasiljeva to a second group win

Tatjana Vasiljeva needed a difficult pot on the black but recorded her second win in Group D of the of the 2023 European Women individual Championships in Albena (Bulgaria) and secure a place in the knockout stage. The 2012 champion beat Nathalie Rohmer (France) 2:0 to stay perfect in the tournament.

After a protracted safety battle in the opening frame Rohmer left a red to the corner while trying to get into the pack and although the Latvian needed a couple of visits to finish it.

The second one went to the wire. Both players missed pots on the black before Vasiljeva cutting it from the cushion into the blind pocket to secure the victory. She now faces Kinga Pietrzak (Poland) in her final Group D match while Rohmer will battle Cathy Dehaene (Belgium) with the spot in the next round on the line.

In the Seniors event Darren Morgan recorded the first century break of the championship. Welsh veteran potted 14 reds and 14 blacks before missing a long red to a balk pocket. Morgan’s break finished at 112 and after that the play bogged down a lot but he still managed to clean sweep James Darcy (Ireland). Winning 3:0 to progress to the knockout stage.
