A three-way tie was decided by a shootout

Three special shootouts were needed to break a rare three-way tie in Group F of the 2023 European Senior individual Championships in Albena (Bulgaria). After Pascal Tollenaere (Belgium), Gregory Cooke (Northern Ireland) and John Breeze (Wales) all finished with an identical 2-1 record and 8:5 frame difference this unique tie-break was the only possible way to separate them.

First on the table stepped Tollenaere and Cooke. Both of the left an easy pot to the opponent in the opening two frames before Tollenaere going in-off in the middle pocket in the third. However, two excellent long pots game the Belgian the 3:2 victory.

Tollenaere stayed on the table to face Breeze and quickly went 2:0 ahead with a long black and unfortunate in-off double kiss foul by the Welshman. At 2:2 both players missed a couple of shots for the win before Tollenaere potting from middle distance to win 3:2 and progress to the knockout stage.

Finally, Cooke beat Breeze 3:0 to clinch the second spot in the group while the Welshman was eliminated.
