Mortreux wins on penalties to start the Shoot Out

The 2023 Shootout European Championships in Albena (Bulgaria) got underway in exciting fashion as penalties were needed to split the 6-Red bronze medalist Nicolas Mortreux and Ivan Kupov. Tied at 37 after the 10 minutes of the match they proceeded to penalties. Kupov missed both of his shots on the blue while Mortreux scored on the second time of asking to progress to the Last 32.

Tatjana Vasiljeva missed a last second black to force penalties against Hristo Sirakov (Bulgaria). 12-years old Matvei Lagodzinschii is through to the next round after beating Bulgarian Tencho Papazov. Another Ukranian, Iulian Boiko, made a break of 41 to eliminate the 2023 Under-16 silver medalist Maksim Kostov.

And there won’t be a third medal yet for Wayne Brown at the Championships as the 6-Reds champion was beaten 67:40 by Antonis Poullos (Cyprus) after an unfortunate in-off foul on the pink while clearing the colors.
