Polish snooker ambassador Nitschke out in Albena despite a spirited effort

Marcin Nitschke bowed out in style of the 2023 European Senior individual Championships in Albena (Bulgaria). The Polish snooker ambassador faced Craig Barber (Scotland) in what turned out to be the best match of the evening session of Day 3 and came up just short of a remarkable turnaround.

Nitschke won the opening frame but found himself 2:1 down after a 69 break from the Scott and a tough laid snooker on the brown. A 28 clearance was enough to level the score but in the decider a positional mistake cost him an early scoring chance. With a couple of visits Barber won the frame and the match – 3:2.

His next opponent will be Alex Borg who escaped from a 2:0 deficit against Esa Kaikumaa (Finland) to progress to the last 16.

In the Women’s event Anja Vandenbussche progressed to the quarterfinals with a 3:0 win over Monica Manolache (Romania). The Belgian veteran won all three frames on the colors to join compatriot Wendy Jans into the next phase. Her next opponent will be Izabela Lacka (Poland) who finished the group stage as a top seed.
