Pride for the Host Nation

Monday’s evening saw home talent taking hard-earned wins being taken home, as Maksimov overtook his superior opponent in Israel’s Eisenberg, while Sisov best Belarus’ Kalinovski. It took Sisov and Kalinovski the whole 5 frames to decide the winner, with the Lithuanian eclipsing his Belarussian opponent 3-2. Elsewhere, numerous whitewashes ensued, as enacted by  Belgium’s Vandersteen, Ireland’s Torpey, Denmark’s Kampe and Malta’s Borg, amongst others.

Amongst the Ladies, the usual suspects Sirotina, Vasiljeva and Jans scored wins. Leschuk, 11-year old from Belarus, gave Ireland’s judge a run for her money, losing 2-3 in a close decider.  The rising crop, Lithuania’s Tracevic and Russia’s Bogatyreva, pummeled their opponents 3-0 to inch ever closer to making out of the groups.

While the remaining players’ wrap up the midnight action, tomorrow will see the group stages approach their zenith.
