Day One of the European Snooker Championships Sofia

Welcome to the 2018 U18, U21 and Men’s Snooker Championships in the Ramada City Hotel in Sofia Bulgaria.

After a delay due to unforeseen circumstances meant that play in the European U18 Snooker Championships got underway at 2pm, following the Official Opening Ceremony where the Chairman of the European Billiards and Snooker Association Mr Maxime Cassis along with the President of the Bulgarian Snooker Federation Mr Oleg Velinov welcomed all 31 Nations involved in the U18 Championships to Sofia.

Mr Cassis said “It is a fantastic pleasure to be back in Bulgaria and I want to thank on behalf of the whole Committee Mr Oleg Velinov and the Bulgarian Snooker Federation for their fantastic help in securing Sofia as a venue for these Championships at just two months notice, we are very grateful to him”.

Mr Velinov was delighted to have the European Snooker Championships back in Sofia, he said “It is a pleasure to have the European Championships back here we are delighted to host this event again and everyone is very welcome to our City”.

The opening ceremony was a fantastic occasion with over 150 people attending and anticipation was high ahead of play and Maxime Cassis extended a warm welcome to all the players and made the point that “These U18 players are the World Champions of the future and somewhere in this room is a future World Champion and this event is so important for the future of the game of Snooker as we the European family of Snooker gather here together in this wonderful venue to enjoy a fantastic tournament”

Play started at 2pm with 84 players, from 31 Nations with 21 Groups of four players and throughout the tournament there will be daily updates in the ‘Latest News’ section here.
