Iulian Boiko is the 2023 European Shoot Out championships after beating Shachar Ruberg (Israel) in the final in Albena (Bulgaria). Ukrainian teenager held his nerves in the deciding match that had to be re-racked because of a technical malfunction.
Boiko was leading 38:31 and potted a red when the equipment signaled for time violation. The replay showed that he played his shot in time but the clock needed to be restarted and the finalists agreed to re-rack and play from the beginning.
Both Boiko and Ruberg missed easy pots and when the clock ticked to zero it was the Ukrainian who was ahead 44:33. Eden Sharav (Israel) and Marcin Nitschke (Poland) took the bronze medals, while Boiko got the prize for the highest break with 109.
